When the ambient temperature is high, the turbine intake air cooling would be beneficial and this practice may be done with the assistance of mechanical refrigeration or evaporative cooling.

In case of using evaporative cooling, cooler should be located as much as possible near the air inlet so that facilitate the cooling air entry and also the maximum required time to evaporate the water is included. Usually for each 20°F (11.1°C) ambient temperature increasing, gas turbine efficiency is reduced by 10% of its nominal capacity (and vice versa). For example, if the ambient temperature reduces to 60°F (15.6°C) turbine efficiency is 10% more than the case where ambient temperature is 80°F (26.7°C).
